SLSF 65000-65099 Darby built gondola - Kit #250002

SLSF 65000-65099 Darby built gondola
SLSF ordered 100 specially equipped gondolas from Darby Corporation (a minority builder of freight cars located in Kansas City, KS) in 1966. The first 50 cars were delivered with steel floors (65000-65049) the remaining 50 cars came with wood floors (65050-65099). Cars were used in lead, copper and zinc concentrate service in the SLSF serviced area of the “Lead Belt” located south and west of St.Louis. After the BN merger, SLSF 65000-65049 were renumbered to BN 562300-562349, SLSF 65050-SLSF 65099 were renumbered to BN 564000-564034. Cars renumbered were repainted in BN green paint. By the time of the SLSF/BN merger these cars could be found in all types of service, including scrap metal, steel, concentrate and company material.
